Porch Light

I keep your side of the bed half-made,
A fossil pressed where your body once laid.
Your coat’s a shroud on the hook by the door,
Dust fills the creases of the life it wore.

The porch light’s on a window to see,
what had happened to you and me.
A light left on is a prayer unsaid,
A vigil for the paths once tread.

About this song:

About the experience of an existential crisis as a young man. Aaron spent 2 weeks away from family in a recovery centre monitored by doctors and nurses that he had worked with as an RN. From the window of his room at night he could see the porch light outside his work office, which was left on each night during his stay. Honouring the care of family and work colleagues in a very difficult time. Majorly influenced by the song "How Can I Keep from Singing?" as voiced by Enya.
