"A Field Of Green" is a poem that I wrote in the 2010's describing a dream that I had, flavoured by experiences that I'd had in life up to that moment. In the dream I was in a prison with high chain link fences. A group of people were playing basketball (including myself) inside the prison. I became dissinterested in the game and decided to do a superman leap over the chain link fence into the surrounding areas. I walked through a literal field of greenery (in the dream) as well as inspecting a parked car at the end of a dirt track. The prison serves as a reminder of the hurt, resentments, or other feelings that we may be bottling up inside unexpressed.
In life I believe that we have numerous opportunities to learn about ourselves through introspection and mindfulness, including how we relate to others. It is the most precious connections we share but also the most difficult (at times) that leave the greatest imprints on our hearts and minds.
A Field of Green
In my bed I lie asleep,
To a field of green I did awake,
from a shared realm held of mind and matter.
I let the minders find me, alone in the field.
Returned to this place of communal space,
yet the field remained.
In my bed I lie asleep,
A field of green I did awake.
